Fire damage can be devastating, especially in high rise apartment buildings. Not only are multiple units often impacted, but the damage can also spread to portions of the building’s exterior.
Recently, the team at Strassburger Tile Perfection had to deal with such a situation. We were called to assess the damage to a 20-story apartment building where a fire had occurred on the 8th floor. During the fire, the windows had been destroyed which resulted in severe smoke damage to the exterior of the building. Fortunately, at Strassburger Tile Perfection we have the ability to restore the exterior finish of buildings after this type of damage.
Using the same type of suspended scaffolding that window cleaners use, our team can safely access the damaged area. We then get to work using a commercial soda blasting system. This system is similar to a sandblaster, but it sprays crystallized baking soda which upon impact with the desired surface turns into powdered baking soda. The combination of the pressure and the baking soda restores the surface we are cleaning, removing the soot and other contaminants left from the fire. What is unique about the soda blasting system is that once the damaged area is clean, the powdered baking soda is embedded into brick or wood, which will help to continuously remove any remaining odours.
